How Long Does Furniture Shipping Actually Take in the U.S.?
The short answer: in-stock furniture ships from a U.S. warehouse in 1–2 business days and arrives in 3–7. Large items move by LTL freight and need a scheduled window. Made-to-order pieces take 15–35 days.
Four delivery types
| Type | Typical time | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Parcel (small items) | 3–7 business days | Tracking emailed at dispatch |
| Oversize parcel | 3–8 business days | One or two boxes, may arrive separately |
| LTL freight | 5–10 business days | Carrier calls to schedule a window |
| Made to order | 15–35 days | Production first, then transit |
Why “in stock” and “out of stock” differ so much
In-stock means the unit is already sitting in a U.S. warehouse, so the clock starts at pick-and-pack. Out-of-stock means the supplier has to produce or transfer it, which is where the extra weeks come from. If a delivery date matters, filter for in-stock items rather than trusting the general lead time.
Tracking multiple boxes
Furniture often ships as two to five boxes, and carriers do not always deliver them together. Check the box count in the shipping email before assuming something is missing — and give it 48 hours before filing a claim.
What to do on delivery day
- Count the boxes against the packing list before signing.
- Photograph any crushed or torn packaging before opening.
- Report damage within 30 days with photos — that is the window the carrier and the warehouse work to.

Day-of delivery checklist for LTL freight
The carrier will call to schedule a window, usually a four-hour block. Before they arrive: clear the path from the door to the room, measure the doorway, and decide whether the delivery is curbside or in-room. Curbside means you move it; in-room means they do, and the difference is worth confirming in advance.
What actually causes delays
Three things, in order: weather on the carrier’s route, a missed delivery window (the truck leaves and you rebook), and a warehouse hold when stock was oversold. The first two add days; the third can add weeks. That is why in-stock items are the safer choice when a date matters.
If a box is missing
Check the tracking numbers against the box count in the shipping email. Multi-box shipments are routinely split across two trucks. Wait 48 hours, then contact support with the order number and the tracking numbers you have — that is faster than starting with the carrier.
What LTL delivery day actually looks like
Large furniture does not arrive like a parcel. The carrier calls the day before to book a four-hour window, then a truck with a lift gate pulls up. Before they arrive: clear the path from the street to the room, measure the doorway, and decide whether you paid for curbside or in-room delivery — the difference matters when a 150 lb dresser is on the tailgate.
Inspect the cartons before signing. Note any crushed corners on the delivery receipt, photograph them, and open the boxes while the driver is still there if you can. Once the paperwork is signed “received in good condition”, a damage claim becomes your word against the carrier’s.
Why tracking can sit still for three days
Freight moves terminal to terminal, not truck to door. A tracking number often shows no movement between the origin terminal and the destination terminal — that is normal, not lost. Parcel shipments behave differently: they scan at every hub, so a gap of more than 48 hours is worth a call.
What to do if one box is missing
Furniture ships in two to five boxes and carriers split them across trucks more often than shoppers expect. Check the tracking numbers against the box count in the shipping email, then wait 48 hours before opening a claim. If the missing box never appears, email support with the order number and the tracking numbers you do have — that is faster than starting with the carrier.
When to ask for a specific date
If the delivery has to land on a particular day — a move-in, a holiday, a rental turnover — order in-stock items only and leave a five-day buffer. Made-to-order pieces cannot be rushed, and a promised date that slips is worse than a date you never promised.
